Hydrogen Dual-Fuel

Reducing Emissions Today

In partnership with Change Fuel Technologies (a subsidiary of HW Richardson) and Newhaul, we're implementing dual-fuel hydrogen technology in heavy haulage vehicles. This proven solution delivers immediate emissions reductions in one of Australia's hardest-to-abate sectors.

Dual-Fuel Hydrogen Technology

Our transport partners are deploying hydrogen injection systems that work in conjunction with existing diesel engines, offering a practical path to cleaner operations without sacrificing reliability or performance.

Commercial Implementation

Once deployed in commercial vehicles across Western Australia's Mid-West region, this technology allows:

  • Fleet retrofits: Existing diesel vehicles converted to dual-fuel operation
  • Immediate benefits: Reduced emissions and fuel costs from day one
  • Operational reliability: Maintains the range and performance of conventional diesel
  • Flexible deployment: Suitable for various vehicle types and operational profiles

How It Works

  • Hydrogen is injected into the air intake of the diesel engine
  • Advanced sensors monitor engine performance and optimise fuel mixture
  • Computerised control systems ensure seamless integration with existing engine management
  • Diesel consumption is reduced by up to 50%, with corresponding emissions reductions
  • Vehicles maintain full operational capability with no loss of power or range

Partnership Vision: From Hydrogen Production to Dual-Fuel Trucks

Target Market

We're focusing initially on the Mid-West mining and logistics sectors, where:

  • Return-to-base operations create ideal conditions for hydrogen adoption
  • High diesel consumption (over 280 million litres annually through Geraldton Port) offers significant replacement potential
  • Concentrated refueling needs enable efficient infrastructure deployment
  • Commercial imperative to reduce carbon footprint drives adoption

Strategic Partnerships

Our foundation partnership with Fenix Resources (ASX: FEX) demonstrates the commercial viability of hydrogen-enabled transport:

  • MOU for hydrogen offtake: Up to 2,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually (equivalent to 6.75 million litres of diesel)
  • Vehicle fleet: Retrofitting Newhaul's fleet of 45 trucks that currently move 3 million tonnes of iron ore each year
  • Operational testing: Extensive field trials in Australian conditions proving technology effectiveness
  • Expansion potential: Additional customers identified throughout the Mid-West logistics sector with capacity to expand to other customers

Development Roadmap

Our clean transport initiative follows a clear development path:

  • Pilot phase (2025): Two Volvo FH16 trucks retrofitted with dual-fuel technology, tested in Australian conditions with interim hydrogen supply
  • Commercial deployment (2028-2029): Stage 1a hydrogen production (3.6 kilotonnes per annum) supplying approximately 20 dual-fuel vehicles
  • Market expansion (2029-2030): Stage 1 production (23.7 kilotonnes per annum) enabling wider adoption across the regional transport sector
  • Technology evolution: Supporting the transition to higher hydrogen substitution rates and eventually purpose-built hydrogen vehicles

Refueling Infrastructure

Our staged hydrogen project will supply dual-fuel vehicles through strategically located refuelling points:

  • Initial deployment: Dedicated refuelling facilities at the Newhaul depot in Geraldton
  • Expansion pathway: Additional facilities serving major transport routes, including Brand Highway and Great Northern Highway
  • Delivery system: Compressed hydrogen delivered via tube trailers from our production facility at Warradarge
  • Commercial range: Effective 250km delivery radius covering Geraldton, Perth, and key arterial routes

Benefits

For transport operators, dual-fuel hydrogen technology delivers multiple advantages:

  • Immediate emissions reduction without waiting for future technologies
  • Retention of existing fleet investments rather than complete replacement
  • Operational reliability maintained through dual-fuel capability
  • Future-ready pathway aligned with decarbonization requirements
  • Brand differentiation as a sustainability leader
