Clean Energy to Industry

Creating Western Australia's Hydrogen Economy

Warradarge Energy is developing an integrated pathway from renewable energy to high-value industrial applications. Our Future Industries initiative combines green hydrogen production with value-added manufacturing to create new economic opportunities for Western Australia.

Green Hydrogen Production

We're taking a pragmatic, staged approach to hydrogen development, starting with commercially viable applications while building toward industrial scale:

Stage 2 (500MW-1.5GW)

  • Production capacity: 74.6-150 kilotonnes per annum
  • Primary application: Industrial processes, particularly green steel production
  • Power source: a new 1.5GW wind and solar farm on 50,000 Acres of land
  • Utilisation factor: 60-80%
  • Target FID: 2029
  • Target first production: 2031

Stage 1 (198MW)

  • Production capacity: 23.7 kilotonnes per annum
  • Applications: Expanded transport fleet and initial industrial uses
  • Power source: An operating wind farm with hybrid renewable profile
  • Utilisation factor: 65-70%
  • Target FID: 2027
  • Target first production: 2029

Stage 1a (26MW)

  • Production capacity: 3.6 kilotonnes per annum
  • Primary application: Dual-fuel transport technology
  • Power source: Behind-the-meter power supply from a wind farm
  • Utilisation factor: 80%
  • Target FID: 2H 2026
  • Target first production: 2H 2028

Commercial Foundations

Our hydrogen development leverages key competitive advantages:

  • Renewable energy access: Behind-the-meter connection at an operating wind farm
  • High capacity factor: Utilising the region's premier wind resource
  • Water security: On-site supply from the Yarragadee Aquifer
  • Strategic location: Access to major transport routes and infrastructure
  • Foundation customers: Secured offtake agreements for initial production

Mid-West Green Iron Company

Stage 2 of our hydrogen development will enable Western Australia's first integrated green steel production facility. The Mid-West Green Iron Project transforms the state's abundant iron ore resources into higher-value products for global markets.

This initiative brings together a consortium of partners across the entire value chain:

  • Renewable energy: Expanded capacity from a wind and solar farm currently under development
  • Hydrogen production: Large-scale electrolysis providing zero-carbon reductant
  • Magnetite mining: High-quality feedstock from regional deposits including Athena’s Byro project
  • Logistics integration: Rail, road and port infrastructure connecting the supply chain from mine to Geraldton Port
  • Iron manufacturing: Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI) production for export markets

Green Materials Value Chain

Market Opportunity

The green materials sector represents a transformative opportunity for Western Australia:

  • Global demand for green steel is forecast to reach 53% of production by 2050
  • Australia has potential to supply 20% of global green iron production
  • WA's green iron exports could reach $4 billion by 2030 and $170 billion by 2050
  • Production tax incentives make Australian green materials globally competitive

Strategic Advantages

The Mid-West region offers unique competitive advantages for green materials production:

  • World-class renewable resources: Wind capacity factors exceeding 50%, and over 65% when paired with solar
  • Grid connectivity: Direct access to the 330kV SWIS network
  • Existing infrastructure: Rail, highway, and port facilities
  • Proximity to resources: High-quality magnetite deposits in the region
  • Export pathway: Established port facilities at Geraldton

Oakajee Green Ammonia Initiative

Beyond green steel, our strategic land allocation at the Oakajee Strategic Industrial Area positions us for expansion into green ammonia production:

  • 50 hectares: Exclusively allocated industrial land
  • Export potential: Proposed 630 kilotonnes per annum ammonia project
  • Power supply: 800MW from a wind and solar farm currently under development
  • Market interest: Established relationships with potential offtakers
  • Government support: Significant planned infrastructure investment

Integrated Development Approach

Our Future Industries initiative demonstrates Warradarge Energy's integrated approach to clean energy development:

  1. Start with commercial applications: Initial focus on transport applications with immediate market demand
  2. Scale with strategic partnerships: Collaboration across the value chain from energy to end products
  3. Build on operational foundations: Leverage existing assets and infrastructure to minimise development risk
  4. Create regional value: Transform Western Australia's resources into higher-value products
  5. Maintain commercial discipline: Each development stage stands on its own commercial merits
