Green Hydrogen: The Versatile Energy Carrier
Green hydrogen is at the core of our future industry's strategy – a versatile energy carrier produced using renewable electricity to split water through electrolysis. Our Stage 1 project will leverage our access to the Warradarge Wind Farm's renewable energy to produce green hydrogen for immediate commercial applications.
What makes our approach different is our focus on commercially viable applications from day one. Rather than waiting for future markets to materialise, we're targeting existing diesel displacement opportunities in heavy haulage and logistics through our partnership with Fenix Resources.
The deployed dual-fuel technology can reduce diesel consumption by up to 50% in heavy vehicles, offering immediate emissions reductions while building the foundation for a broader hydrogen economy.
Decarbonising Heavy Transport
The transport sector represents Australia's most challenging decarbonisation priorities, particularly for heavy haulage, where battery electric solutions face significant limitations due to weight, range, and charging infrastructure.
Our partnership with Fenix Resources demonstrates a practical approach to reducing emissions in this hard-to-abate sector. By retrofitting existing heavy vehicles with hydrogen dual-fuel technology, we can achieve meaningful emissions reductions without waiting for the complete turnover of Australia's transport fleet.
This technology is not theoretical – it's being deployed in real-world applications today, proving that clean energy transitions can be pragmatic, commercially viable, and immediate.
Green Steel: Adding Value to WA's Resources
The most exciting aspect of our future industry's vision is the potential for green steel production. Western Australia has long been known for its abundant iron ore resources, but it is typically exported with minimal local value addition.
Our Stage 2 development envisions the Eneabba Green Iron Project – a transformative initiative combining locally produced green hydrogen with magnetite ore to produce Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI) for export.
This approach offers multiple benefits:
- Higher value exports: Moving up the value chain from raw ore to HBI
- Local job creation: Establishing advanced manufacturing in regional WA
- Emissions reduction: Producing steel inputs without coal-based processes
- Future-proofing: Positioning Australia ahead of carbon border adjustments in key markets
With established relationships across the mining and logistics sectors, plus our renewable energy and hydrogen capabilities, Warradarge Energy is uniquely positioned to bring together the necessary elements for this ambitious but achievable vision.
Green Ammonia: Another Pathway to Exports
Our recently secured 50-hectare industrial lot at the Oakajee Strategic Industrial Area opens another pathway for clean energy exports through green ammonia production. With 800MW of renewable energy capacity potentially dedicated to this project, we could produce 630,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually for export markets.
Green ammonia represents one of the most efficient carriers for hydrogen, with established shipping and handling protocols making it ideal for international trade. As global markets for green ammonia develop – particularly in Japan and South Korea – Western Australia has the opportunity to become a leading supplier.
Building a Complete Ecosystem
Our focus on developing a clean energy ecosystem sets Warradarge Energy apart. Rather than pursuing isolated projects, we're building an integrated approach that connects renewable generation, hydrogen production, and end-use applications across transport and industry.
This ecosystem approach delivers more significant value than the sum of its parts, creating synergies that improve commercial viability while maximising environmental benefits.
A Realistic Roadmap
While our vision is ambitious, it's grounded in commercial reality. Each stage of our development pathway:
- Stage 1a (26MW): Green hydrogen for heavy transport
- Stage 1 (198MW): Expanded hydrogen for transport and small industrial use
- Stage 2 (500MW+): Green iron production
- Stage 3 (800MW): Green ammonia for export
Each represents a commercially viable opportunity while building towards our broader vision.
